A Tribute to Rajiv Gandhi
Author: Joy D'Penha
Title: A Tribute to Rajiv Gandhi
Year: 1991
When Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated the author was truly disturbed by the way he was killed because he was a young Prime Minister and had a great ambition to change India's future for the best. This poem was also published in the daily Indian Newspaper - The Mid-Day, Bombay.
To be an Indian is now of great shame
Cause democracy has played a dirty game
Killing innocent lives, that helped build a nation
Among them was Rajiv Gandhi the light of the 21st creation
With a charming young dynamic leadership in him
Was foreseen the future of India within
A smile on his face kept things cool
He used it as his non-violent tool
He risked his life for a new India
And walked across to meet the media
But some illiterate, cruel, cowardly minds of rust
Had no respect for humanity and misused hsi trust
Peace and harmony was his everlasting aim
But nwo it seems to be of mere name
A leader to occupy this vast gap
Is hard to find in India's map
